The Hephthalites (Ephthalites, Ye-Tai, Sveta Huns and erroneously the White Huns) were a nomadic confederation in Central Asia who originated in Tokaristan in NE Afghanistan.
They were most likely the ancestors of the Abdalis who spawned the Durrainis in Iran in the 18
    th
    century.
They were first mentioned in 125 by the Chinese and were most likely related to the Yuezhi. They conquered Sogiana in 479 and drove out the Kidarites and captured the Tarim Basin in NW China.
They invaded India but were defeated by Skandagupta but by the end of the 5
    th
century they overran the Guptas and ruled until Toramana was defeated in 510.
Their last king, Yudhishthura ruled about 670 and was replaced by the Kabul Shahi Dynasty.
Punjab is a state in Northern India bordered by Jammu and Kashmir that extends into Pakistan.
It was originally known as Trigarta and ruled by the Katoch Kings starting around 800 BC.
Because of its prime location the area was conquered by the Nandas, Mauryas. Sunjas, Kushans, Guptas, Hephthalites, Palas and Hindu Shahis and invaded by the Achaemenid Persians, Greeks, Scythians, Turks and Afghans.
It fell under the rule of the Sikhs and then to the British.
In 1947, the Punjab Province was split in two and 7 million people were forced to move to Pakistan.
Mihirakula (Mithra’s Begotten) was the son of Toramana and became the most important Hephthalite Emperor.
    The 7
    th
century Chinese traveler Hsuan Tsang commented : ‘He was of quick talent and subdued all the neighboring provinces without exception’.
His territories included Gwalior, the Punjab, Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan.
He was defeated in 528 by King Yasoharman of Malwa and Narasimhagupta who had originally paid tribute to him.
He was taken prisoner and his brother seized power over the Hephthalites.
When he was released he travelled to Kashmir and was received with honor, but a few years later he incited a revolt against the king , seized power and invaded Gandhara but died soon afterwards in about 542.
