Having a hard time seeing the lion and King? Here are some hints:
On the reverse concentrate on the right side of the coin about 2:00 and you will see the tail, then follow the body of the standing lion up and you will see his head and neck, which actually resemble Godzilla more than a lion.  To the left of the tail on the other side of the body you will see the lions arms. Down on the ground to the left you will see the King's left foot. The rest of the king is somewhat hard to discern.
Southern Sogdiana (Ancient Tajikstan) was part of the Bactrian Margiana Archeological complex in the Bronze Age and was ruled by the Iranian Kambojas until the area fell to the Persian Achaemenid Empire.
Alexander conquered the Persians and married Roxana, a local Iranian-Bactrian Princess.
After Alexander’s death it became part of the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom and was ruled over the centuries by the Sassanids, Hephthalites and Goturks before falling to the Indian Kushans who fell to the Arabs in 710.
Later dynasties included the Samanids, Qarakhanids, Khwarezmshahs, mongold, Timurids, Shaybanid Turks and Afsharids before it was taken by Russian who turned Soviet.
Tajikstan became a Republic in 1991.
